Road & Rail, the route to success

Road and Rail Limited was established in 1997 as a sister Company to Maurice Hill
Transport Limited and had the purpose to set up routes in the UK where rail could work hand in hand with road haul.  This had huge environmental benefits, saving hundreds of thousands of road miles.  There was a need for customers with huge volumes to demonstrate an environmental responsibility and in land Rail Terminals were a good option.

We purchased Burton on Trent Rail Terminal and it began trading in 1998, initially with steel from the mills in Cardiff, which was mostly distributed throughout the Midlands.

In 2004 a warehouse was built at the Rail Terminal and due to demand was subsequently extended in 2007. Following the completion Road and Rail Limited were awarded the best industrial building of the year by Staffordshire District Council.

The warehouse began holding steel for the new Toyota plant at Burnaston, Derby, just 6 miles away.  Our warehouse became the first multi supplier warehouse in the Uk, where one load of steel could be from France, Holland and Austria, maximising efficiencies from supplier to end user. The lead time from Toyota requiring stock and Road and Rail delivering it was reduced quickly from 48 hours to 2 hours.

Following this the Rail Terminal commenced running container trains and was nominated for a Rail Freight Group award for running the longest container train from Felixstowe into Burton on Trent, again maximising capacities and efficiencies for customers.
Today we continue to service our original warehouse customers as well as dealing with new clients in different sectors.
